How does the process work?
Typically we follow these steps:
1. Consultation in-person or a phone /video call where we walk through the process more in detail and get basic intake questions answered and share instructions on how to measure your head. Should you want to move forward after the consultation, we will invoice you a $75 deposit that goes towards the final cost of the hat.
2. We deliver a look book with options and materials. A second consult is scheduled to review and make some decisions around your design. We will confirm your measurements during the second consult.
3. Materials are ordered and work begins. If you are local to California, we may schedule an interim fitting before final touches are completed.
4. Your hat is completed and shipped out to you.
How much is a custom hat?
The cost is calculated based on the materials you select and the level of detail (time) required to bring your vision to life. The largest cost-driver in terms of materials is the type of hat body you choose. Wool hat bodies typically start at $75 and felt (Rabbit, Beaver, Nutria or a blend) hat bodies begin at $180. On average, a New In Town Hat will cost between $200 and $500. That said, we never want price to be the deciding factor in you getting the hat of your dreams. We are happy to try to work within a set budget.
How long does a custom hat take to make?
Typically hats take between 6 to 8 weeks from consultation to delivery, but may be more based on shipping times or any special order materials.
Where do you ship?
We can ship anywhere major delivery services (UPS, Fedex, USPS) deliver to. Shipping costs will be calculated and included in your final invoice.
What does Custom really mean?
All hats are one-of-a-kind, hand made and bespoke to your measurements and design direction. During the consultation phase, we will help you take measurements to ensure a good fit. If you want to take the level of customization up a notch, we can meet in person and use a tool called a formillion to create a template for your head. From there, we will create a hat block unique to you. If you have a unique or asymmetrical head shape, or want to reduce break-in time for your new hat this may be a good option for you.
